I'm related to curds from croydon where i am now, my grandad george frederick potter hes mum is susan ann kezian potter nee'curd her mum was sarah whitmore and dad george curd. my gggran is kezian roberts who married my gggrandad george, someone email me a 5 generation pedigree of my g-mothers and fathers, i write down what i can see in order.

george curd- kezian curd nee' roberts... george curd- sarah whitmore, susan ann kezian potter nee'curd... john whitmore, mary roffey,mary viger , if that right surname viger as i cant see tree very well. anna miller, philadelphia penfold, richard viger all i can see so far have to get this sorted. lot of these people where from sussex and kent.. I have a book called stall story surrey st market about my mums family and my dads, my ggran susan potter nee'curd family in book about being hawkers, horses dealers..... story about my gggrandad geogre and susans brother bill in book.

I have had a long interest in my family history, which has probably driven my mother mad … sorry Mum :( I have dragged Mum into all sorts of activities trying to gather information on my behalf on our family … again sorry Mum! But I have been lucky as I have an Aunty that has an interested (thanks Aunty Kathy) and a relative through my Great Grandfather’s family (thanks Marg) have been able to give everyone a kick start (at least for the Australian Curds). I’ve also met Rebecca in Devon that has been kind to share what information she has.

Our family (the Curds) came to Australia by way of a crime – well two actually. Poor Richard Curd was deported to Australia in 1831 after being tried a second time at Maidestone, Kent and shipped to Sydney on board the Lord Melville II. We Curds come from the Kent area, specifically around Maidestone.

So far we can go back to John Curd who was born in about 1755, I presume in Yalding, Kent (or close to it). I had heard a rumour on the Net that the Curd name came to the UK with William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Not sure how true it is!

Looking at the children's names (below), there is so much in common with other branches we have that there has to be a link. A Lewis CURD is listed as being born 1823 in Bendom (according the the Buckinghamshire FHS) but I can find no more apart from a stray census listing in 1881 where Lewis shows up as a patient in "St Mary Hospital" Cambridge Place Paddington London. He is shown as married. Both Lewis and Dinah appear in the 1891 Census.

Can anyone uncover more?

I really enjoyed myself, sorry if I didn't get to spend much time with everyone, I seemed to be very busy for the whole day!

Well now it's time to move this thing into 2nd gear! I hope to introduce some interactive features to the site really soon, these will include:
- On line family tree for registered users
- Gallery features for your photographs
- Ability to correct, add to and comment on the tree
- Include all branches of the CURD tree even if they are not connected yet
- etc etc

Just a quick update:

Opening Times:
The school hall will be open to Curd family members from 10.30 onwards and we are letting in the general public at 14.00 onwards

Photograph
We are hoping to have an “official” group Curd family photograph taken at 12.00 so make sure you are around at that time to be included (although I’m sure there will be lots of “unofficial” ones as well!)

Flaunden Church:
Flaunden church will be open in the afternoon from 2.00 pm until 5.00pm serving teas and cakes
Note: several of John and Susannah’s children were baptized at Flaunden rather than Sarratt but in the old church which was down in the Chess valley – the current church was built in 1838 and still has the original font plus a small display on the history of the original church – definitely worth a visit if you are in the area

Public transport:
Anyone intending to use public transport please note that the 352 bus is now running 15 minutes later than previously published on the web site.
It now leaves Hemel Hempstead bus station at 15 minutes past the “odd” hour ie 9.15, 11.15, 1.15, 3.15, 5.15 and leaves Watford Town Centre at 15 minutes past the “even” hours ie 10.15, 12.15, 2.15. 4.15 calling at both Hemel Hempstead and Watford Metropolitan stations (not Watford Junction) and stopping in Sarratt village
Note: if you are using public transport and would like to visit Flaunden please let me know and we will arrange a lift for you

And now the bad news!
Sarratt church was closed for redecoration at the end of June – we are not sure what the visiting arrangements are going to be on the day – hopefully we will be able to gain access but there may be some restrictions as to what we can see inside

And finally
If there are any descendants of John and Susannah who are intending to come along and who have not yet contacted me I would appreciate it if you could let me know who is coming and let me know your connection to John and Susannah so that I can prepare name badges in advance – this will save a bit of time on the day
