Hi Sandie,

hat is an interesting idea and well worth following up, I'm not really sure how we can go about it though. I guess one way to prove any kind of linkis through DNA testing - Sue Curd has set up a testing project and there are details at
https://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?code=H11519&Group=Curd

Of course the test depends on you having a known, live, male relative who can be tested but it would be a good start.

I guess other clues would be a lack of marriage or death records for your John in his birth area and a similar lack of any births with John as the father. Since I started all this research I have drawn a blank at every turn regarding my John and even his wife, they seem not to have an "previous" in Hertfordshire (or anywhere else that I can find!

Any info you have to break my deadlock would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi
I am new to your site. I was born a Curd from Kent. My ancestors originate from Yalding in Kent. In my records I have a John Curd who was baptised 23 April 1723. He is the brother of my direct ancestor Charles who was baptised 3 April 1729. Their father was William Curd. I wonder if by any chance this is your missing John. There are and were lots of "Curds" in the Yalding and Wateringbury areas of Kent.

My direct line is:

Leslie Curd
Henry Robert Charles Curd
Charles Curd
Charles Curd
William Curd

Hope this is of interest

Thank you

Introducing Sean Curd (Australia)

Hello all! My name is Sean Curd and I live in Brisbane, Australia.

I have had a long interest in my family history, which has probably driven my mother mad … sorry Mum :( I have dragged Mum into all sorts of activities trying to gather information on my behalf on our family … again sorry Mum! But I have been lucky as I have an Aunty that has an interested (thanks Aunty Kathy) and a relative through my Great Grandfather’s family (thanks Marg) have been able to give everyone a kick start (at least for the Australian Curds). I’ve also met Rebecca in Devon that has been kind to share what information she has.

Our family (the Curds) came to Australia by way of a crime – well two actually. Poor Richard Curd was deported to Australia in 1831 after being tried a second time at Maidestone, Kent and shipped to Sydney on board the Lord Melville II. We Curds come from the Kent area, specifically around Maidestone.

So far we can go back to John Curd who was born in about 1755, I presume in Yalding, Kent (or close to it). I had heard a rumour on the Net that the Curd name came to the UK with William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Not sure how true it is!

Happy Searching,

Pleased to hear the reunion went well. Sorry we couldn't make it. Perhaps next time. Am also looking forward to any interactive features you are planning to add. Will certainly add hubbies branch even though there's no paper link (yet!).

Louis (Lewis) CURD

Seems to me there is a large chunk of tree which should be connected to ours!

It all revolves around
Louis (Lewis) Curd Born: 1824 - Buckinghamshire, England, UK and Died: 1903 - Epsom, Surrey, England, UK.

Wife
Dinah Lovell
Born: 1823 - Hayes Middx England UK, Died: 1899 - Kensington, Middx, London, England, UK

Looking at the children's names (below), there is so much in common with other branches we have that there has to be a link. A Lewis CURD is listed as being born 1823 in Bendom (according the the Buckinghamshire FHS) but I can find no more apart from a stray census listing in 1881 where Lewis shows up as a patient in "St Mary Hospital" Cambridge Place Paddington London. He is shown as married. Both Lewis and Dinah appear in the 1891 Census.

Can anyone uncover more?

I don't know of any connection between the families but am more than happy to keep looking! I guess DNA testing is always going to throw up this kind of thing and all we can do is search for the paper trail to try to understand what went on.

I really had no idea what to expect, especially number wise and more people came than I thought.
One of the best aspects was some of the flesh on the bones as portrayed on the display boards.
I'm really looking forward to the interactive program you are working on too.
Big thanks to both you and John for making this possible.

Well now that the great day has come and gone I guess it's time to reflect..

I really enjoyed myself, sorry if I didn't get to spend much time with everyone, I seemed to be very busy for the whole day!

Well now it's time to move this thing into 2nd gear! I hope to introduce some interactive features to the site really soon, these will include:
- On line family tree for registered users
- Gallery features for your photographs
- Ability to correct, add to and comment on the tree
- Include all branches of the CURD tree even if they are not connected yet
- etc etc

Keep your eyes peeled for developments.

Now in BIG letters:
Thank you John for all the local organising that you did to make the day a real success for all of us, it really is/was much appreciated.
