Introducing Sean Curd (Australia) (2 replies)

Hello all! My name is Sean Curd and I live in Brisbane, Australia.

I have had a long interest in my family history, which has probably driven my mother mad … sorry Mum :( I have dragged Mum into all sorts of activities trying to gather information on my behalf on our family … again sorry Mum! But I have been lucky as I have an Aunty that has an interested (thanks Aunty Kathy) and a relative through my Great Grandfather’s family (thanks Marg) have been able to give everyone a kick start (at least for the Australian Curds). I’ve also met Rebecca in Devon that has been kind to share what information she has.

Our family (the Curds) came to Australia by way of a crime – well two actually. Poor Richard Curd was deported to Australia in 1831 after being tried a second time at Maidestone, Kent and shipped to Sydney on board the Lord Melville II. We Curds come from the Kent area, specifically around Maidestone.

So far we can go back to John Curd who was born in about 1755, I presume in Yalding, Kent (or close to it). I had heard a rumour on the Net that the Curd name came to the UK with William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Not sure how true it is!

Happy Searching,

Hi

My name is Sue and I am researching my mother-in-laws family. Her maiden name was Curd. I discovered Sue Curd and her DNA project on the web and she told me about the get together and from there discovered this forum. Mums brother has just done the DNA test for Sue and we are awaiting the results. I have been having a lot of trouble with this branch firstly as I haven't been able to locate mums fathers, James Augustus Curd, birth certificate. I have however found a James of the right age in 1901 census born in Poplar whose father is Charles Samuel Curd also born Poplar c1860. I have traced back to his parents, John Curd born c1825 Poplar and Mary Ann Eve born c1825. I think Sue Curd is leaning towards the possiblity that this branch links to her Sussex branch rather than the other branches. Perhaps the DNA test will prove things one way or another.

anyone related to Albert Edward Curd - Croydon (6 replies)

Hi
I am the daughter of Albert Edward Curd who came out here to New Zealand in the late 1940s/early fifties....He died a few years ago now and I have acquired a fairly unreliable family tree from my older brother...From what I can make out from it my father had 1 brother, John, also deceased who lived in Croydon also. There were I think 4 sisters Kit, Iris, May and Joy. My grandfather's name was also Bert and he married ?Bella (?Kitchen) and brought her out from South Africa - so the family story goes...
My grandfather Bert had I think 4 sisters and 1 brother Kitty (married Bob Gilam, Sukie (m. A. Potter), Maggie (m. John Carter); Jane (m. Joe Jarman), and a brother William (m. EdithElu...missing end to name). Their parents were George Curd (son of Kazia Roberts and George Curd, and mother Sarah nee Whitmore daughter of Mary Roffey and John Whitmore.
I have an extension of the family tree of William that includes names such as Billy and Marion Clifford, Freddy and Ivy nee Barford, Dennis and Betty nee Lee and Tony and Brenda....
I would be interested in hearing from any relatives living anywhere. I live in the Wairau Valley, New Zealand. My email address is madeleinecurd@hotmail.com

Nice to have the forum up and running again, well done Brian.
I'm John Hopkins, grandson of Minnie Hopkins nee Curd. I live in Chipperfield, Herts and I am part of the John Curd/ Susannah Pymley branch of the Curd family. I am a member of the Sarratt Local History Society and we are hoping to put on a Curd family day in the village of Sarratt (where John and Susannah were married) later in the year - more details will appear in due course.
I would be very pleased to correspond with anyone else who is a member of this part of the clan.
Incidentally my great grandfather James Curd had the unusual distinction of being "killed while picking cherries."

My name is Brian CURD and as you've probably guessed, www.curdfamily.com is one of my domains.

I have been trying to build a comprehensive family tree for 2 or 3 years now and have managed quite a lot BUT, there is still a long way to go and a lot of details to fill in.

So far I have traced my ancestors back to John CURD and Susannah PYMLEY, both born about 1750, and living in Sarratt/Redbourn/Flaunden in Hertfordshire UK. Checking various records show very little CURD activity in the area before this date so I am left to assume that they actually came for elsewhere. Help!

I have also had a 37 marker DNA test recently and I hope the results of that will give me some clues as to the most fruitful direction for future research.

While I was brought up and spent most of my adult life in Wiltshire, I am now settled on the Isle of Wight, just of the South coast of the mainland UK.
